The Harleston Fire Engine
The Harleston Fire Engine dates from about 1775. It is not in the best of conditions today but is currently stored in a dry atmosphere until a permanent place for it can be found. When it was commissioned to be built the brass for its bell was stolen and its recovery became a story in itself. What happened to the thief is a comment on the general attitudes of those long-lost days.
